Our Identity
Choosing a School Name
Following a process of consultation, the name "Greenfield Academy" was decided for our new learning community in February 2025.
The name is deeply meaningful as it directly connects to the historical site on which the school is built. The name honours Greenfield House, its legacy as a thriving market garden, and its connection to the Douglas Bleachfield, all of which played a significant role in Dundee’s local industry, agriculture, and community life.
Beyond its historical significance, "Greenfield Academy" also serves as a metaphor for education, personal growth, and success—values that are central to the new school’s vision. The academy will be a place where seeds are planted and where young people are nourished to grow, flourish, thrive and contribute to the wider community, much like the land that once provided a rich and steady supply of fresh produce to Dundee.
As Dundee City Council’s first Passivhaus designed school and campus, Greenfield Academy also serves as a symbol for sustainability. The Drumgeith Community Campus building exemplifies sustainable construction by achieving remarkable energy efficiency and provides superior indoor air quality and comfort ensuring the healthiest learning and working environment.
The proposed name for the new community campus is “Drumgeith Community Campus”. This reflects a strong sense of place and the geographical location of the site, reinforcing the school and campus as a central hub for learning, collaboration, and community engagement.
Badge Design

The new school badge for Greenfield Academy has been revealed by pupils.
A group of P7 pupils from Greenfield Academy’s feeder schools have been engaged in a co-design activity collaborating with the V&A Design Museum Dundee and local artists Linsey McIntosh and Cara Rooney.
Learning how to distil information through a design process and collaborating with their peers the pupils have created icons and visuals to represent the Greenfield Academy schools values:
Love, Ambition, and Perseverance.
Within the setting of a green field, the Dandelion was central to capturing the spirit and values of the new school.
Dandelions grow in the most unlikely of places and thrive in almost any environment. They show how to keep shining bright when the world is difficult at times. They have deep roots which make them difficult to remove, creating strong connections. Blowing all dandelion seeds away in a single breath represents your wishes and dreams coming true. Their seeds are dispersed by the wind, allowing them to spread and grow in new areas. They represent a fresh start as they signal that spring is here. The inclusion of two Heron representing the learning communities of Braeview Academy and Craigie High School – proud likeminded creatures, coming together in a new learning community. Herons were identified by young people within our ESA as a strong mascot to represent our learning community.
The falling seeds represent our key values and aims within the new learning community.
Love heart and the root of all of our endeavour - Respect given and shown to whole school community- helping those who need help.
Star- being ambitious and not giving up.
The co-design process has empowered the pupils to make critical design decisions ensuring their badge is fit for purpose, communicates a visual values story.
Book – Achieve your goals, gain knowledge, and feel proud.
Tie Design
In February and March 2025, pupils from Braeview Academy and Craigie High School worked with Dundee-based fashion designer, Hayley Scanlan, alongside V&A Dundee, to create a new tie for Greenfield Academy.
Eilidh Shearer, an S4 student at Greenfield Academy (2025-26) created the winning design. Her design weaves the light blue of Braeview and the black of Craigie into a new tartan identity, adding green to represent the new school and white and dark blue to provide contrast and a fresh, natural look.
